1. Life Safety
Provide at least two means of egress including a secondary means of egress from the upper floors, install lighted exit signs, provide emergency lighting and assure emergency exits pathways are unobstructed.

2. Cooking Exposure
Service the extinguishing system and manual pull station a minimum of every 12 months. Provide for a thorough cleaning of the hood, filter and especially the duct system a minimum of every six months. Cleaning the system should not be confused with servicing the systems.

3. Sprinklered Risks
Annually conduct a flow test with tamper and flow central station monitoring. Central station alarm checks differ from flow testing of the system.

4. Employee Selection
Fingerprint based criminal background checks should be completed on all employees/volunteers having regular and frequent contact with clientele.

5. Playground Equipment
Ensure fall zones are adequate to include material and depth. Playground apparatus should be professionally installed, properly signed and unmodified.

6. Hired and Non–Owned Auto
Obtain certificates of insurance when utilizing the services of a hired contractor, for example a client transportation service. Verify the existence of insurance and safe driving record for staff that, on a regular and frequent basis use their personal autos in the insuredís business.

7. Certificates of Insurance
Institute a policy of obtaining certificates from all contractors and service providers. Preferably you should be referenced as an additional insured.

8. Smoke and Heat Detection
Install and maintain smoke & heat detectors, especially battery operated detectors in group homes. Institute a procedure to test for dead batteries.
